Southfield, MI – June 6, 2022 – Senvol President Zach Simkin will serve as host for SME’s upcoming Voices AMplified webinar, “Views from the Top – Perspectives from AM Industry Leaders.” The webinar will focus on the historical perspectives and stories from three people who helped shape the additive manufacturing (AM) industry into what it is today: Terry Wohlers (Founder, Wohlers Associates), Brent Stucker (Chief Scientist, 3D Systems), and Jason Jones (Co-Founder and CEO, Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies).

The webinar will explore the 30+ year AM industry history. It was not that long ago that the AM “industry” was just a handful of folks in a room sharing ideas. Through the hard work and vision of the technology’s early adopters, however, the AM industry has blossomed over the past three decades. We are at a fortunate time in the industry’s history in that most of the industry’s early founders are still around to tell their stories.

Attendees of this webinar can expect to:

  • Learn how the industry came to be
  • Hear interesting anecdotes and stories about some key moments that shaped the industry
  • Gain perspective on where the industry is going and how it may affect you

Senvol President Zach Simkin commented, “I’m extremely excited for this upcoming event. Terry, Brent, and Jason have each contributed a tremendous amount to the industry and have great historical perspectives to share. We’re going to hear a lot of interesting stories and anecdotes from their experiences over the years. These type of stories are usually reserved for one-on-one conversations, so I’m enthusiastic that via the Voices AMplified platform we’ll have an opportunity to allow the industry at large to join in.”

Terry Wohlers, thinking back to the first time he was introduced to AM, said: “It was in 1987 when I first heard about 3D printing. The beta version of stereolithography was being introduced to the world. Days later, I received a VHS video tape showing the process and a full-scale automotive part. My jaw hit the floor. It was that day when the light bulb in me switched on. The light intensified in the years that followed, as I am sure it did with many people, and it has not faded a bit since then.”

Jason Jones added, “The first time I read about 3D printing and the promise it held I was riveted. However, when I saw the first parts in polymer (and later in metal), they didn’t meet my expectations and I wondered if this technology was really going to make it.”

The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 2:00-3:00 PM EST.
